Gelcoat Maintenance & Repair

Maintaining the gelcoat on a boat will make the time spent aboard more enjoyable and provide increased value when looking to sell it. We can help maintain the topsides and deck surfaces of your boat through periodic compounding and waxing so that it doesn't lose it's luster, or take whatever steps necessary to bring the shine back to faded surfaces. We also have considerable experience dealing with the defects that can result from manufacturing deficiencies, normal wear and tear and aging, the relocation or removal of hardware, or damages due to mishaps that may require repair to the laminate.

Sample Project 1: The first boat pictured is the same Cape Dory 28 shown on the Non-skid Restoration Systems page. The gelcoat contained significant cracking in both the molded non-skid and the off-white glossy areas adjacent to it. Before the non-skid could be resurfaced with KiwiGrip that cracking needed to be addressed. We filled and faired the defects with epoxy fillers and then sprayed a matching gelcoat to the repair areas. We also patched some holes in the deck where hardware had been removed and sprayed those areas as well. This was then wet sanded and polished to blend it into the existing surfaces.

Cape Dory 28 - Shows the repairs to the non-skid and adjacent areas on the forward coach roof. Cape Dory 28 - The areas below the windshield and around the base of the house have been sprayed with gelcoat and once hardened will be blended into the existing surface. Cape Dory 28 - The new owner decided to relocate the radar dome so the holes from where the radar mast had been bolted on the port side of the house needed to be glassed over and re-gelcoated.
Sample Project 2: The second boat is a Four Winns that lost an argument with the corner of an immovable object in the owner's yard. We repaired the laminate, resurfaced the repair area using manufacturer supplied gelcoat, and installed new vinyl stripes to the boat.
